The Nintendo DSi may be the key to the survival of the old DS. Hexus reports that if the DSi sells well the DS will be phased out of service after a three-year stint. If the DSi doesn't sell well, I guess the DS will hang around.
Honestly, does anyone really expect the DSi to not sell well? It's all but assured honestly. The new DSi is set to launch on April 5 in Europe and its launch may prove to be the last time players can get the DS, maybe even at a discount.
“We’ll let the market decide. We expect some people will upgrade, but we also anticipate that we’ll win over people who were still undecided on DS – the extra features will help convince them,” David Yarnton said in response to a question asking whether the DS Lite would be phased out following the launch of the DSi in April.
