Meike Automatic Extension Tube Set DG Review

Added another item to my collection, Meike Automatic Extension Tube Set DG... it comes with three tubes... 13mm, 21mm & 31mm... and as usual, a little bit of review for this equipment...

Lens used - 135mm, Subject - mini Hatsune Miku

No tube attached

the initial distance between the lens and Miku when no tube is/are attached...

13mm

21mm

31mm

13mm+21mm

13mm+31mm

21mm+31mm

all three tube attached

and this is distance between the lens and Miku when all three tubes are attached...

now if you think the end result of the total of 65mm tube attached to 135mm wasn't really "large" or "close" enough, well that is because of the 135mm are only able to focus at a distance of 0.9m... so i try using my Sigma 50mm (MFD - 0.45m) with all three tubes attached and here is the result...
even at f16, the DoF is still very thin...

and this is the distance between the lens and Miku... very close indeed... eheh... so its not really that practical to try to catch a macro shot of a moving/living thing...
Performance-wise, surprisingly, the AF wasn't really affected... AF was still fast on both the 135mm & 50mm...the only downside about this tube is the built quality... the tube felt kinda flimsy... felt like something that would break easily when dropped... not quite sure whether it can hold a heavy lens or not... eheh... i haven't dare to try it out yet... eheh...

So in conclusion, its all about whether you require multiple tube or go for something like a Canon 25mm tube which is around the same price but with better built quality... as for me, let see how long this tube can last... eheh...

Apparently Meike make these in an all-plastic set or an all-metal set.
Which is reviewd here and referred to as flimsy, I don't know.
