Blizzard Starts Closed Beta for StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty

Blizzard Entertainment has announced that it is now starting the closed beta for the next installment in the StarCraft franchise. The new title is StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty. The game is a RTS title and Blizzard has invited thousands of gamers to participate in the beta.

The beta testers are also getting a first look at the revamped Battle.net service that will be the online platform used for StarCraft II and WoW. WoW continues to be the most played MMORPG on the planet and hugely profitable for Blizzard.

The new Wings of Liberty title is set to ship in the first half of 2010. Gamers can still try to get in on the beta by visiting the official StarCraft II website and getting a Battle.net account.
