Fujifilm unveils FinePix X100 large-sensor compact

FUJIFILM Corporation is pleased to announce the new FinePix X100, a high-grade digital compact camera featuring an APS-C CMOS sensor, a Fujinon 23mm fixed focal length lens and a newly developed Hybrid Viewfinder, due for commercial release in early 2011.

The FinePix X100 is aimed at the professional photographer or keen enthusiast looking for exceptional quality pictures from a compact camera. It is designed to appeal to the millions of DSLR users who need a slim back-up camera for high quality in-fill shots when the use of a bigger SLR system is either inconvenient or impractical. Or, of course, it can be used as a professional’s only top-end camera, if size and versatility are the primary considerations.

Fujifilm has closely studied the current line-up of professional cameras and feels that there is a strong need for a compact high-quality (APS-C based) camera as a counterpoint to an SLR. Using the experience of working with generations of photographers using famous emulsions like Velvia, Provia, Astia etc., Fujifilm engineers distilled this knowledge into months of careful study to create the perfect compact-sized professional camera.

The priority for this model is picture quality, so it was decided to make the highest quality possible lens and sensor combination, built from the ground-up. The lens chosen is a fixed, prime F2 lens, made by Fujinon, manufactured to perfectly match the APS-C custom sensor. Added to this is the newly-developed EXR Processor, which combines all the latest image processing technology Fujifilm has built up over the years.

Fujifilm launches FinePix W3 3D compact camera

Following on from the successful launch of the world’s first 3D camera in September ‘09, Fujifilm continue to offer consumers the opportunity to make their own true, rather than interpolated, 3D content with the launch of a new camera – the FinePix Real 3D W3.

A world’s first!
While smaller and lighter than the original model, the FinePix W3 adds a bigger and better quality screen, an Auto 3D mode, stereo sound recording and the unique ability to shoot video in Real 3D in High Definition, with live or recorded playback via direct connection to any 3D TV – using an HDMI mini-cable (hi-speed type) 1.4 cable.

The FinePix W3 continues Fujifilm’s strategy of offering Real 3D content by replicating the human visual system in combining two high quality lens and two CCDs in the one chassis – and allows consumers the option of viewing 3D images and video either with or without special glasses.

3D content can be viewed, and on a huge scale, on any of the increasing number of large screen 3D TVs by using the sets’ supplied glasses.

Alternatively consumers can also view stunning 3D images and video without glasses through the camera’s built-in 3.5inch LCD display or via the optional 8” 3D digital viewer/photoframe. Images can also be made into special ‘lenticular’ prints - via a unique printing process which will shortly be available in the UK for the first time and in a range of sizes up to 9”x6”.

Owners of 3D TVs can also rest assured that the FinePix W3 will show their new screen at its very best, thanks to the unique 3D HD video recording and a parallax control function which helps to remove crosstalk problems by allowing 3D fine tuning, even after the images have been taken.

A rather special 2D Camera
They may already be bowled over by the unique 3D performance of the FinePix W3, but consumers can also be happy in the knowledge that they are also purchasing a very special 2D camera indeed.

This new technology has also brought some unique benefits to shooting images and video in the 2D world, bringing new creative freedom to the user.

By featuring twin high quality Fujinon lens and two CCD sensors the FinePix W3 effectively becomes two cameras in one body, while the powerful, proprietary processor allows the camera to take two different photos at the same time.

So photographers can select to shoot both close-up and wide angle versions of a photo, or two alternative colour balances or have an image with two versions with high and low sensitivity.

The FinePix Real 3D W3 camera will be launched in early September 2010 with an estimated selling price of $499.95 and will be available from major department stores and leading independent camera specialists.

Key features at a glance:
  • 3D HD Movie (720p) and 3D still image capture
  • Instant 3D playback on build-in High Contrast, 3.5” 3D LCD (without the need for special 3D glasses)
  • Direct Connection via HDMI high-speed 1.4(Type A-Type C) cable to any branded 3D HDTV
  • Two 1/2.3” 10 Megapixel CCD
  • Two Fujinon 3x optical zoom lens
  • 3D RP(REAL PHOTO) HD PROCESSOR
  • Compact and light-weight 230g body (excluding accessories, battery and memory card)
  • 2D Special effects using Simultaneous Shooting functions

Fujifilm introduces FinePix HS10 with 30x optical zoom

Serious photographers wanting the versatility and performance of an SLR system without the bulk or expense now have the perfect solution in the shape of the new Fujifilm FinePix HS10. The latest addition to Fujifilm’s award-winning range of big zoom ‘bridge’ cameras offers an unprecedented feature set that combines a powerful 24-720mm (30x) zoom lens with sophisticated photographic controls, advanced functionality and SLR-like handling in a single compact, affordable unit.

Utilising cutting-edge Back Side Illumination CMOS capture married to class-leading Fujinon optical design, the FinePix HS10’s unique mix of advanced technologies brings several new features designed to make achieving professional-looking pictures easier than ever to the FinePix range, whilst maintaining Fujifilm’s legendary image quality and low-light shooting performance.

Key features at a glance:
  • High Resolution super wide Fujinon 30x optical zoom (24-720mm) with manual (mechanical) zoom
  • True wide-angle and extreme telephoto capture in a single compact unit
  • Triple image stabilisation (sensor shift IS, high ISO IS, Digital IS)
  • 10 MP BSI CMOS sensor with advanced shooting modes and high image quality
  • 3.0” High Resolution tilting LCD
  • Electronic Viewfinder with eye-sensor for automatic switching
  • High speed 10 fps continuous shooting at full resolution and new motion-tracking auto focus
  • Full HD (1080p) movie capture with stereo sound
  • Super High Speed movie capture at 1000 fps
  • Motion Panorama mode for ‘one shot’ sweeping panoramas
  • Advanced capture modes including unique Motion Remover mode that removes tourists and other moving objects from your photographs
  • Direct Shooting Command buttons and Command dial put advanced photographic features at your fingertips
  • RAW and JPEG capture modes

A lens so good you’ll be glad you can’t change it
With a range that would require at least two bulky ‘super zoom’ lenses on an SLR, the FinePix HS10’s built-in 30x wide-tele zoom lens is its crowning glory, encompassing virtually every photographic requirement in a single compact unit. Furthermore, because the lens and body on the FinePix HS10 are built as a closed unit, it eliminates the possibility of dust on the lens and Sensor - a serious problem when removing lenses on a digital SLR.

The twist-barrel manual zoom control enables the photographer to make precision adjustments, and zooming is faster and more accurate than with the powered zooms traditionally used in this class of camera.

The class-leading 30x optical zoom covers a uniquely versatile 24-720mm (equivalent on a 35mm camera) range from true wide-angle to ultra telephoto. From sweeping landscapes, interiors and large group shots to distant sports or wildlife action, the FinePix HS10 really is ready for every photographic challenge thrown at it. And it’s not just the huge zoom that’ll take your breath away: the Fujinon name ensures optical quality across the entire range that you’ll see from the first picture you take. Fujinon lenses are acclaimed by photographers, broadcasters (as the world’s leading manufacturer of television camera lenses) and industrial users across the globe - and even further afield: Fujinon lenses have been used in an orbital satellite to capture high-resolution photos of the surface of the moon.

Triple Image Stabilisation combines a mechanically stabilised CMOS sensor with high ISO sensitivities and advanced digital stabilisation for total anti-blur protection. Together these technologies reduce the blurring effect of both handshake and subject movement to provide sharp, clean and clear results even at the longest zoom settings or in the most challenging lighting conditions.

High Speed, High Definition
Whether you’re shooting stills or movie clips, the FinePix HS10’s cutting-edge sensor and processing technologies open up a range of high speed capture modes and unique shooting possibilities.

When you’re shooting sports action or wildlife - or simply trying to keep up with fast-moving children - the 10 frames-per-second high speed with mechanical shutter continuous shooting and new tracking auto focus feature will ensure you never miss that vital moment. And since the FinePix HS10 can perform its remarkable feat of shooting 10 fps even at the maximum 10 megapixel setting, when you do get the perfect shot you don’t need to worry about having enough resolution for even a large-sized print.

T he FinePix HS10’s unique Best Frame Capture Mode means you don’t need the reactions of a pro sports photographer to get professional results either; in this mode the camera continuously records images from the moment you focus, then saves up to 7 shots before or after you press the shutter release. Capturing action with the FinePix HS10 is so easy it feels like cheating.

The FinePix HS10 also features a full HD movie mode (1080p/30fps) with stereo sound, and the camera’s mini HDMI output allows you to easily display ultra clear high definition photographs and movies on high definition televisions. A new Super High Speed Movie function allows you to freeze action and capture breathtaking movies at up to 1000 frames per second for amazing slow-motion movies that reveal the hidden world of events that normally occur in the blink of an eye.

Advanced modes, limitless expression
The FinePix HS10 boasts several unique features and modes designed to expand shooting possibilities and to take the work out of creating genuinely eye-catching images.
  • Motion Remover Mode - Remove moving subjects from your shots. This mode captures 5 images of a scene in quick succession; the five images are then analysed and combined in-camera to produce a single image where anything moving in the scene has magically disappeared. Never before has capturing postcard-quality shots of tourist traps – without the tourists – been so easy.
  • Multi-Motion Capture Mode - Previously only possible with highly specialised equipment (and more than a dash of time, skill and luck), this mode captures up to 5 images of a moving subject in rapid succession and combines them into a single composite image containing multiple sharply-captured views of the subject motion.
  • ‘Pro Low Light’ mode - Combines high and low ISO exposures of the scene being photographed to reduce blur caused by camera shake without significantly increasing image noise. The FinePix HS10 also sports the remarkable ‘Pro Low Light’ mode, first seen on the FinePix S200EXR, which combines several exposures into a single image for ultra-low noise output in low light.
  • Motion Panorama Mode - Captures an ultra-wide panoramic view in a single sweeping shot. As you swing the camera (left/right or up/down) the FinePix HS10 captures a series of shots in rapid succession. The shots are then stitched in-camera to produce a seamless panorama.

Setting new standards for low light performance
Thanks to Fujifilm’s award-winning sensor and processing technologies FinePix cameras have become market leaders in low-light performance, setting the standard for high sensitivity, low noise results in the most challenging shooting conditions. The FinePix HS10’s back side illumination CMOS sensor continues this tradition with an innovative new design that significantly increases the light gathering ability of every pixel, resulting in a 200% increase in sensitivity over a conventional CMOS sensor. Combined with Fujifilm’s image processing expertise the new sensor produces stunning richly detailed low noise images, even when shooting in very low light.

The improved sensitivity isn’t just for taking noise-free photographs at night: it also allows the use of high shutter speeds in daylight required when shooting at telephoto end of the FinePix HS10’s 30x zoom, or when attempting to capture fast-moving subjects. Photographers no longer need to worry about blurred pictures with such a long telephoto as they can rely on the FinePix HS10 to produce clear, sharp output even at higher ISO settings.

A true photographer’s camera
As well as a range of advanced automatic functions – including Fujifilm’s acclaimed SR Auto mode - and scene modes designed to produce perfect ‘point and shoot’ results, the FinePix HS10 sports a full complement of sophisticated of manual and semi-automatic shooting modes and photographic controls. The extensive external controls give the more advanced photographer direct access to virtually every control they will need for uninterrupted shooting, and the body includes dedicated buttons for key functions such as ISO, white balance, focus and metering.

The large command dial, manual focus ring, twist and zoom lens barrel, bright, clear electronic viewfinder, high quality tilting LCD screen and deep hand grip ensure the FinePix HS10 handles at least as well as a digital SLR, despite its compact dimensions. AA batteries provide excellent performance (up to 700(TBD) shots per charge when using NiMh cells) combined with the convenience of a universally available format when shooting for extended periods away from mains power.

Other features
In common with all enthusiast-level FinePix models the FinePix HS10 features a range of advanced Fujifilm technologies for picture-perfect results, including ultra-fast Face Detection, Intelligent Flash, automatic red-eye removal and up to 400% expanded dynamic range.

Last but not least, the HS10 sports, for the first time, a clever sensor to the side of the EVF (Electronic Viewfinder). When the user approaches the EVF, the sensor switches the picture to the EVF, and when the eye is withdrawn, the image is automatically switched to the LCD. This novel feature makes the photographer’s life so much easier and increases the speed at which instant shots can be taken.

Fujifilm unveils FinePix F80EXR

FUJIFILM North America Corporation today announced the FinePix F80EXR, a sleek, compact digital camera that combines intuitive use with the most advanced features, including Fujifilm’s award-winning EXR technology, available in a point-and-shoot digital camera. Among its many features, the FinePix F80EXR has an impressive Fujinon 10x Wide-Angle optical zoom lens, a 12-MegaPixel Super CCD EXR sensor, a large, 3.0” High-Contrast LCD, Face Recognition, Pet Detection and HD movie capture at 720p.

Encased in a beautifully sculpted metal shell with a double coated lacquer finish and measuring only 22.9 mm thick, the FinePix F80EXR comes in black. The FinePix F80 EXR offers several enhancements over its predecessor, the FinePix F70EXR, and boasts marked improvements over competing long-zoom digital cameras, particularly in the areas of color and design, image quality and capture technology.

“The FinePix F80EXR has the same advanced Fujifilm EXR technology and 10x long-zoom that made the F70EXR so successful,” said David Troy, marketing manager, Consumer Digital Cameras, Electronic Imaging Division, Fujifilm North America Corporation, “and takes it to the next level with even more features, such as HD Movie Capture and Face Recognition, for users to achieve outstanding results in virtually any lighting condition.”

Face Recognition
Now, users can register up to eight (8) faces, along with names, birthdays and categories, and the F80EXR will prioritize focus and exposure right on the faces of those special people. Users can also use Image Search to view images of a registered person. Compared to models from other manufacturers, Fujifilm’s Face Recognition has faster recognition speed, greater number of names displayed, and the ability to recall the most often shot subject.

Super CCD EXR
Long zoom compact cameras, as opposed to standard compact digital cameras, typically use a smaller sensor that is vulnerable to difficult lighting conditions since light has a harder time reaching the CCD sensor. To mitigate this vulnerability, Fujifilm has introduced its award-winning EXR technology into the FinePix F80EXR, allowing for significant improvement in image quality against the competition.

Fujifilm’s EXR technology uses the human eye as the basis for the perfect camera sensor, creating a Super CCD sensor capable of registering excellent levels of detail when switched to its HR (High Resolution) mode. The FinePix F80EXR is also capable of offering excellent quality in low light and superb highlight detail in contrast light when switched to its SN (High Sensitivity and Low Noise) mode and DR (Wide Dynamic Range) modes respectively.

Super Slim 10x Zoom Lens
In conjunction with the Super CCD EXR sensor, the FinePix F80EXR features a Fujinon 10x Wide-Angle optical zoom lens that produces crisp high resolution results throughout the focal range, from 27mm wide-angle to 270mm telephoto. The lens of the FinePix F80EXR features Super EBC Coating that keeps ghosting and flare to minimum to allow for optimal picture quality.

HD Movie Capture
With the ability to capture movies in HD quality – 720p HD – the F80EXR also has a mini HDMI Port, making it quick and easy for users to realize the full benefits of their home theater system and to share all their special moments.

Pet Detection
For those who enjoy the company of four-legged friends, the F80EXR has Pet Detection, allowing users the ability to detect up to 10 faces of dogs or cats and automatically optimize the focus. The F80EXR is programmed to recognize 57% of the Fédération Cyno Logique Internationale (FCI) Registered Dogs, 80% of the Top 20 Dogs in the American Kennel Club (AKC) Ranking and 60% of The Cat Fancier’s Association (CFA) breeds1. Pet Detection works by matching various dog or cat data of facial parts with patterns to detect the dog or cat being photographed.

Tracking Auto Focus
The F80EXR also has Tracking Auto Focus, which allows users to track a moving subject automatically for still picture capture.

The FinePix F80EXR also offers these additional features:
  • ‘Super Intelligent’ Flash: The FinePix F80EXR offers a flash control system which efficiently controls the level of flash for a given exposure to produce beautifully balanced flash illumination across the foreground and background. Gone are the ugly washout shots where the subject is blasted with light and the background dark and unexposed. Super Intelligent Flash is most useful in macro photography where the contrast between subject and background can be especially challenging, but is also effective for night and backlit photography.
  • Face Detection and Automatic Red-eye Removal: To provide perfectly exposed and focused portrait shots, the FinePix F80EXR is fitted with Fujifilm’s latest Face Detection technology which is able to track up to 10 faces simultaneously, at almost any angle to the camera. The system instantly corrects red-eye and then saves both the original and the corrected image file automatically.
  • Dual Image Stabilization: Long-zoom cameras need stabilization more than any other compact, with handshake and subject movement a particular problem in low light at telephoto range. The FinePix F80EXR reduces blur to a minimum by deploying Picture Stabilization to automatically increase shutter speeds to freeze action, and CCD Sensor Shift Stabilization to counteract the problems of handshake. By cleverly combining these two, blur is reduced to an absolute minimum.
  • 3.0” High-Contrast LCD: The FinePix F80EXR is fitted with a high contrast 230K-pixel 3.0” LCD. The high contrast LCD is a considerable benefit in bright light, and means that the camera can be pitched at various shooting angles to enable framing of awkward shots. The LCD is bright and clear for beautiful rendition of shots in playback.

The FinePix F80EXR will be available in April 2010 at a retail price of $299.95.

Fujifilm launches FinePix XP10 rugged compact

Fujifilm is proud to announce the launch of the FinePix XP10, the first in a new category of super-resilient compact camera that really can withstand the elements.

Not only is the XP10 a Born Survivor, but with its core specification of a 12 Megapixel resolution, high-precision 5x Fujinon lens and HD recording, you can capture breathtaking images with total peace of mind. The FinePix XP10’s tough credentials are neatly hidden in its stylish metal body which is so slim it’ll fit in your back pocket. And, with an exciting NEW easy web upload function, sharing photos of your daring stunts with your friends is quick and simple.

Four-way protection
The FinePix XP10 is the ultimate lifestyle camera. Drop it, soak it, freeze it or bury it in sand, this camera will come out unscathed. Not only is the XP10 waterproof to 3 metres, but it is also shockproof to 1 metre, freezeproof to minus 10oC and dustproof, too, giving users total confidence that they can take it with them wherever they go, whatever they are doing, regardless of the conditions.

A tough camera with soft looks
Most tough and waterproof compact cameras have big, bulky shells. This is where the FinePix XP10 really stands out. Although it is waterproof, dustproof, freezeproof and shockproof it still retains the handsome, chiselled design of a conventional compact camera, making it suitable for both taking down the beach surfing or slipping into your pocket or handbag for a night out.

With a gorgeous metal body, the XP10 is a camera that looks and feels highly sophisticated, but still offers all the practicalities of an ‘outdoor’ camera.

Carefully disguised in its slender shell is a high quality Fujinon 5x internal vertical zoom lens. The Fujinon glass elements have an ion coating to give five times more protection than a conventional lens. What’s more, the 5x zoom operates internally meaning it is extra protected from knocks and scrapes. Match this with Digital Image Stabilisation to reduce image-blur, high sensitivity settings (to ISO 1600) and a high resolution 12 Megapixel CCD sensor, and this camera delivers sharp and clear images at the touch of a button.

Advanced Technology
To ensure perfect results every time, the XP10 employs SR AUTO to intelligently identify the scene type and the shooting conditions present, and optimises the camera’s settings as appropriate.

It also features Fujifilm’s highly-effective and acclaimed Face Detection technology with auto red-eye removal, which eliminates any unsightly red-eye in-camera whilst the photo is being taken.

High Definition
Additionally, 720p HD image and movie capture meaning memories can be re-lived in glorious high definition on any HD ready television.

NEW Easy Web Upload
If you want to share your adventures with friends online the XP10’s NEW Facebook/YouTube Easy Web Upload function will make your life so much easier. This feature saves time being spent trawling through the photos on your computer to decide which ones to upload, instead, in playback mode on the camera you got to the Menu option and ‘mark’ a picture for Facebook or You Tube upload. Then once you connect the XP10 to a computer and access the MyFinePix Studio software (included in the box), all you have to do is press “upload” and the marked pictures and videos will transfer to the selected site.

NEW Target Focus
The perfect tool for capturing those fast-paced action shots, Target Focus tracks fast moving subjects so they don’t escape from the frame in a blur. This handy function racks a subject automatically for as long as the shutter is half-pressed; the subject is kept in the frame and when you fully press the shutter button your subject will be in the centre of the photo, in sharp focus.

NEW Movie Editing mode and Blog mode
Get creative and add your own finishing touches to your videos and images, amongst others you can choose from B&W, Sepia, or you can even add a dynamic lighting effect, all this in-camera.

The waterproof, shockproof, freezeproof and dustproof FinePix XP10 is well suited to young people with active lifestyles. With an impressive specification and useful features, the FinePix XP10 makes taking and sharing photos fun and trouble-free.

Fujifilm releases S1600, S1800 & S2500HD superzooms

Fujifilm is proud to announce the arrival of the NEW FinePix S1600, S1800, and S2500HD, a range of compact and lightweight, 12 megapixel digital cameras with powerful Fujinon long-zoom lenses.

FinePix S Series bridge cameras have been popular across the world for many years, and the new line-up for 2010 doesn’t disappoint. Built around new x 15 and x 18 Fujinon lenses and Fujifilm’s proprietary image processing, the new range delivers remarkably high quality results all the way from wide angle through to telephoto. With unique easy-grip styling, and their small, lightweight design, these models can be easily carried around with you, yet are sturdy enough to let you know that you’re in charge of the technology.

Impressive Fujinon Optics
All three models boast a 28mm wide-angle start to the zoom range, while the FinePix S1600 extends this to 420mm (x 15) and the FinePix S1800 and the FinePix S2500HD reach an impressive 504mm at telephoto (x 18). From sweeping landscapes, interiors and large group shots to distant sports or wildlife action, all three cameras are ready for every photographic challenge thrown at them.

Dual Image Stabilisation
With a mechanically stabilised CCD sensor and high ISO sensitivity (to ISO6400) for anti-blur protection, the combination of these technologies reduces the blurring effect of both hand-shake and subject movement to provide sharp, clean and clear results even at the longest zoom settings or in the most challenging of lighting conditions.

High resolution LCD screen and Electronic Viewfinder
Providing you with the flexibility of framing your shots using the high quality electronic viewfinder or the large, bright 3.0-inch LCD screen, whichever you choose, they both offer high resolution image playback and a fast frame rate of 60 fps.

Let the camera do the hard work for you
Using Fujifilm’s Scene Recognition Auto (SR Auto) the S series cameras are able to intelligently select the scene type and the shooting conditions present and will adjust the camera settings accordingly, optimising results and making it easy to take good pictures.

Advanced HD capabilities
All S models now capture HD videos and HD stills enabling you to play them back on any HD ready television for the ultimate viewing experience. Additionally, the FinePix S2500HD features an HDMi mini port so can connect to a HD ready TV direct via a HDMI cable (Commercially available).

Tracking AF
Now featuring Tracking Auto Focus, previously only on the S1500 model, this useful function allows you to track moving subjects by half-pressing the shutter button and ensures that when you take the shot you capture your subject in the centre of the frame and in perfect focus. No more frustrating missed shots!

Perfect Portraits
To further enhance the existing Face Detection system, Fujifilm have added two fun and valuable features: Smile & Shoot Mode can recognise the precise moment your subject smiles and releases the shutter only when this happens, ensuring that all your photos are happy ones. Blink Detection warns you if any of your subjects have blinked so that you can re-take the photo if necessary.

Advanced Features
Previously on the S2000HD, Instant Zoom is a versatile feature which enables the user to keep their subject in shot at long distance by offering a wide viewing area around the frame and then cropping in to the subject once the photo is taken.

Zoom Bracketing is another useful function enables three shots to be taken at the single press of the button, at varying degrees of magnification (original, 1.4 x and 2.0 x). This enables instant editing on the camera to choose the ideal shot, rather than having to go back to a PC to facilitate a digital crop.

Panorama mode allows you to take a series of pictures and then stitch them together to create an impressive continuous shot of a landscape or a group of friends.

Pre-programmed scene modes: The new models features pre-programmed scene modes that offer a one-touch setting for almost any situation, including: Portrait, Landscape, Sport, Night, Fireworks, Sunset, Snow, Beach, Party, Flower, Text.

Natural light with Flash Mode: This FinePix new S-series quickly shoots two images in rapid succession – one with the flash and one without – and saves both. This convenient function lets users perform a comparison at their convenience and select the most pleasing image.

Photographic control: all three models feature Programmed AE, Shutter Priority AE, and Manual mode with extensive metering and focus options for the more advanced user.

NEW Auto Picture Rotation: A useful new function that ensures your photos are always the right way around in playback. Whether you have taken a landscape or portrait image, you can enjoy your pictures whichever way around you are holding the camera, as the image will rotate in the screen to suit.

Micro Thumbnail: A playback feature that allows for viewing an index-style image on the LCD. The FinePix S1600/S1700/S2500HD will show up to 100 images in micro form. The control buttons are used to select specific images.

Standard Features:

The FinePix JX250 employs a 14-Megapixel CCD, a 2.7” High-Resolution LCD and a Fujinon 5x wide angle (28mm-140mm) optical zoom lens. The FinePix JZ300 has a 12-MegaPixel CCD, a 2.7” High-Resolution LCD and steps up with a huge Fujinon 10x Wide-Angle optical zoom lens (28mm-280mm equivalent) and the FinePix JZ500 rounds out the series with a 14-Megapixel CCD, a 2.7” High-Resolution LCD and a Fujinon 10x Wide-Angle optical zoom Lens (28mm-280mm equivalent).

“With an overwhelming consumer response to the first few generations of J-Series cameras, we wanted to give our customers an even greater range of options when it comes to price point and feature set,” said David Troy, marketing manager, Consumer Digital Cameras, Electronic Imaging Division, FUJIFILM North America Corporation. “With the J-Series new line, there is now an ultra-compact model for every budget and feature need – even with long zoom capabilities.”

New Look
The shell of each J-Series model has been upgraded to a high-quality metal and its soft, curved edges give it a sculpted, sophisticated look. Encased in a high-grade brushed metal body, they are not only well protected from bumps and scrapes, but give a simple, yet elegant design. The FinePix JV100 and JX250 have had their overall thickness reduced to a tiny 18.5mm1. The JV100 will be available in black or blue, and the JX250 will come in black. The FinePix JZ300 and JZ500 come in at 22.0mm1. The JZ300 and will be available in black or silver, and the JZ500 will come in black. All four models have also added a new mode dial for additional convenience and functionality.

HD Capability (all models)
The new J-Series models all offer stunning movies in 720p with sound and high quality stills at 1920 x 1080. Many consumers are happy to enjoy HD movies on their PC, but with the new HD Player (optional extra), which comes equipped with a remote control, families can gather around their home HDTV to enjoy amazingly detailed stills and high resolution movie playback.

Tracking Auto Focus (all models)
Previously featured on Fujifilm’s D-SLR styled FinePix S1500, the new J-Series models feature Tracking Auto Focus which is perfect for when you need to take a picture of a moving subject and can’t keep your subject in the frame. Just switch Tracking Auto Focus on and it will track your subject and ensure that you achieve a crisp picture with you subject in the center of the frame in perfect focus.

Face Recognition Technology (JZ500 only)
For the first time on a Fujifilm digital camera you can identify the people in a picture by name! Fujifilm’s Face Recognition Technology gives you the ability to pre-program 8 people into the camera. To do this, you start by taking a picture of the person you want to program into the camera and then tell the camera who that person is (e.g. Mom). You also have the option of inputting the category she belongs to (e.g. friends/family) and the date of her birthday. The next time you go to take a photo of her, the camera will cleverly recognize “Mom” and optimize the settings to ensure that exposure and focus are best suited to her rather than the other people in the picture. This fun technology can recognize up to 5 pre-programmed people on screen at the same time.

In addition, the FinePix JZ500’s new Picture Search Tool is able to use the Face Recognition data (name, birthday and category) to help you find and playback your photographs quickly and easily. If you want to scroll through all pictures featuring “Mom” for example, the camera will be able to select them for you for easy viewing.

Smile & Blink Detection (JV100 & JX250 only)
Photos are all too often spoiled by people blinking or grimacing. Smile Detection works with Fujifilm’s highly-acclaimed Face Detection technology to detect smiles on faces: it will not take a picture until it detects a smile, so you’re guaranteed happy shots! Another new feature is Blink Detection which warns you if you have captured an image with people blinking, so you can re-shoot if necessary.

Pet Detection (JZ500 only)
For those who enjoy the company of four-legged friends, the FinePix JZ500 comes equipped with Fujifilm’s brand new Pet Detection technology, allowing users the ability to detect up to 10 faces of dogs or cats and automatically optimize the focus. The FinePix JZ500 is programmed to recognize 57% of the Fédération Cyno Logique Internationale (FCI) registered dogs, 80% of the Top 20 Dogs in the American Kennel Club (AKC) Ranking and 60% of The Cat Fancier’s Association (CFA) breeds2. Pet Detection works by matching various dog or cat data of facial parts with patterns to detect the dog or cat being photographed.

The FinePix JV100, JX250, JZ300 and JZ500 also offer these additional features:
  • Scene Recognition Auto (SR AUTO) (all models): This mode intelligently detects the scene type you are shooting and optimizes the camera’s focus, exposure and white balance, so whether you’re photographing flowers or a holiday landscape, you will get flawless photos at the press of a button.
  • Digital Image Stabilization (JV100 and JX250): Digital Image Stabilization reduces image blur automatically and offers creative adaptability and excellent picture quality.
  • Dual Image Stabilization (JZ300 and JZ500): Long-zoom cameras need stabilization more than any other compact, with handshake and subject movement a particular problem in low light at telephoto range. The FinePix JZ300 and JZ500 reduce blur to a minimum by deploying Picture Stabilization to automatically increase shutter speeds to freeze action, and mechanical CCD sensor shift stabilization to counteract the problems of handshake. By cleverly combining these two, blur is reduced to an absolute minimum.
  • Face Detection and Automatic Red-eye Removal (all models): To provide perfectly exposed and focused portrait shots, each J-Series model is fitted with Fujifilm’s latest Face Detection technology which is able to track up to 10 faces simultaneously, at almost any angle to the camera. The system instantly corrects red-eye and then saves both the original and the corrected image file automatically.

The FinePix JV100 and JZ300 will be available in February 2010 at a suggested retail price of $129.95 and $199.95 respectively. The JZ500 will be available in March 2010 at a retail price of $249.95 and the JX250 will be available in April 2010 at a retail price of $159.95.

Fujifilm introduces FinePix S200EXR super-zoom

Fujifilm today unveiled the FinePix S200EXR digital camera, its most advanced SLR-styled camera to date. Combining the pin-sharp 14.3x Fujinon optical zoom lens (30.5mm-436mm equivalent) so popular in its predecessor, the award-winning FinePix S100FS, with Fujifilm’s latest 12-MegaPixel Super CCD EXR sensor, the FinePix S200EXR is aimed at top-end camera enthusiasts looking for excellent picture quality without the hassle, bulk and expense of a D-SLR system.
