Ar-Rahnu Meeting 'reaches consensus'
The Asean Regional Ar-Rahnu General Meeting reached an agreement on its opening day yesterday, as delegates gathered to discuss and approve the establishment and strengthening of regional cooperation through continuous commitment, as well as realisation of the objectives of the Regional Ar-Rahnu Secretariat.
According to information from BIBD, the 2010 Regional Ar-Rahnu Secretariat Meeting, which carries the theme "Towards Strengthening Regional Collaboration", has successfully reached a consensus.
The meeting, organised by BIBD and chaired by the Acting Managing Director of BIBD, Mr Javed Ahmad, is attended by delegates from several countries in the region.
The consensus came in the form of an agreement that "the Ar-Rahnu Micro Credit Programme is an effective platform for Community Capacity Building in relation to socio-economic development framework as to ensure the creation of a sustainable community".
The meeting, which takes place at the Rizqun International Hotel in Gadong, is held with the purpose of coordinating the operations of Islamic trade and trade services to help the growth of Islamic financial services in accordance with Syariah Law in member countries, for the benefit of the target groups.
"Efforts towards strengthening and expanding this (Ar-Rahnu Micro Credit) programme will be given special attention in the future," the information from BIBD reads. "Due to the established collaboration in the mission to realise the Ar-Rahnu Secretariat's objectives to develop the target group in this region, the Secretariat Conference Members will be committed to supporting and strengthening the running of the Secretariat in order to ensure the realisation of all the agreed Resolutions, Declarations and matters from the series of conferences and meetings held.
The information also states that, due to the need for Ar-Rahnu to be the effective platform for business and social missions, efforts will be made in exchanging practical experiences among Secretariat Conference Members and in exploring new ideas, and that innovation will be the main concern and approach in future.
The Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia-based Regional Ar-Rahnu Secretariat was established after a summit in 2002 to facilitate the Ar-Rahnu business seminars in order to promote, develop and monitor the implementation of Islamic trade among members of the secretariat.
