BIBD Presents Donations To Underprivileged Family

Widower Dyg Hjh Bumtar binti Hj Sahat relies on the $250 monthly assistance from the Community Development Department: She cannot work because of her diabetic condition and at the same time, she has to feed her three children who are staying with her.

The underprivileged family of Dayang Hjh Bumtar was one of the nine families who benefited from BIBD's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of 'Program Sirah Amal BIBD'.

The contributions were taken to the homes of the underprivileged families by staff of the bank led by Hjh Nurul Akmar Jaafar, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility; Noraini Sulaiman, Chief Financial Officer as well-as Hjh Nora'ani binti Hj Besar, Senior Manager of Human Resources.

The programme which was organised yesterday was aimed at simply brightening up the lives of the underprivileged families in the country during the holy month of Ramadhan.

Dayang Hjh Bumtar binti Hj Sahat in an interview also expressed her joy in receiving the contributions to lessen her burden: She also thanked BIBD for the contributions.

She has highlighted her difficulties, which included the unpaid electricity bills amounting to more than $10,000 and the backdated payment for the house.

"I could not afford to pay the electricity bills and the house as I have no stable income," she said:

The community based programme was initiated by the bank's CSR team with items contributed by BIBD employees through an internal fundraising and is being facilitated by Greenfrog Management Services.

The programme was launched on August 20 where BIBD together with Greenfrog will be visiting 40 homes in the country during the holy month of Ramadhan with the aim of making these visits every Friday until September 10, tentatively the last day of Ramadhan.

According to Hjh Nurul Ajmar Jaafar, during this month of charity and philanthropy, the bank aims to reach to the community through various activities under 'Program Sirah Amal BIBD'.

"Through this, we hope would alleviate hardships and worries of the less privileged," she said.

The donations, in the form of food hampers (basic necessities) and funds will be contributed to underprivileged, the elderly and orphans.

The collections of contributions started on the first day of Ramadhan where BIBD's CSR team allocated boxes for staffto contribute their donations: The bank also managed to collect personal donations from staff of BIBD in the form of clothing, food, and even cash.

BIBD's CSR has always been underscoring the values of caring for the society and will always commit its effort to ensure the objectives of BIBD's CSR are met and is aligned with the guidelines of Islam and also benefit of nurturing the society's needs be it underprivileged, Young Entrepreneurs, Environmental Preservation or Research and Studies.

Other houses that the BIBD's staff went to visit were in the areas of Pg Bendahara Lama, Sungai Bunga, Salambigar, Sungai Hanching, Lambak Kanan, Burong Pingai Berakas and Gadong.
