Tomb Raider To Get Reboot Treatment

Lara Croft is the latest Hollywood character to get the reboot treatment as GK Films announced its plans to launch new "Tomb Raider" movies and it doesn't appear that original franchise star Angelina Jolie will be involved.

Producer Graham King, whose credits include "The Departed" and "The Town," announced that the first film in the series reboot is aiming to hit theaters in 2013.

The press release noted that the reboot "will create daring new adventures for the young and dynamic Lara Croft."

"We are very excited to be rebooting what is already a hugely successful film franchise and continuing the 'Tomb Raider' phenomenon," King said in a statement.

In 2004, Angelina said it was unlikely that she'd ever play the videogame heroine again.

"I don't think so. I just don't feel like I need to, because I felt very happy with the last one, which was kind of the one we wanted to do," the actress told Ugo.com at the time. "The first one kind of frustrated us, because we were trying something new. The second one, I felt like that's kind of how I wanted to do it, and I don't really feel the need to do another one."

The actress first played the gun-slinging treasure hunter in 2001's "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" and then again in "Lara Craft: Tomb Raider - The Cradle of Life" in 2003. The movies were based on the popular video game, which made its debut in 1996, spawning 10 versions of the game over the years.

Angelina Jolie launches Pakistan flood appeal

Actress and UN ambassador Angelina Jolie has released a video asking for help on behalf of people affected by the floods in Pakistan.

Ms Jolie said: "This is not just a humanitarian crisis. It is an economic and social catastrophe.

"The UN is on the ground. The more support we can give the greater number of tents, food, clean water and medicine will get to the people in need."

The appeal comes after thousands of people streamed back to the historic southern city of after new levees were hastily built from clay and stone to hold back flood waters.

But thousands who fled the waters that inundated neighbouring towns complained about the shortage of food and water as they camped in a vast Muslim graveyard on a hill near Thatta city.

The floods began over a month ago in the north west after extremely heavy monsoon rains and surged south along the Indus River.

Jolie to play Sleeping Beauty villain?

Angelina Jolie is turning to the dark side - she's in talks play the wicked fairy godmother in a live action remake of Sleeping Beauty.

Fantasy filmmaker Tim Burton will direct the modernised version of the Disney classic following the success of Alice In Wonderland, and Jolie will add her star power to the project as famous villain Maleficent, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Alice In Wonderland has become America's highest-grossing movie of the year so far after taking £77.5 million earlier this month in its first three days on US release.

Jolie is currently shooting The Tourist with Burton's frequent collaborator and Alice In Wonderland star Johnny Depp.

Angelina Jolie doubts 'copycat' Fox

Angelina Jolie has accused Megan Fox of "copying" her style.

The 'Tomb Raider' actress is reportedly furious the 23-year-old star is being lined up to play action hero Lara Croft in the next instalment of the film franchise.

Angelina, 33 - who portrayed the gun-slinging archaeologist in the first two films - has told friends she doesn't think Megan can "handle" the part.

A source told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "Angelina was intent on reprising her role. She feels it's something she helped define and feels robbed that it looks likely to be handed to someone who she considers less capable than her.

"Angelina believes Megan won't do the Lara Croft character justice. She's also annoyed because she thinks Megan copies everything from her, from her tattoos to her style."

Film sources claim it makes sense to give the part to Megan because it is a prequel that is set years before the first two movies.

If Megan does land the role, Angelina is reportedly planning to show she is still the queen of action films.

An insider said: "Angelina is collaborating on a concept with a new sexy female action character which will absolutely blow Megan out of the water."

Angelina no longer top 10 sexiest

The Hollywood beauty - who has never been voted No 1 in the poll but entered the Top 10 in ninth place in 2004 - only made it to 15th place this year, her lowest position since 2004.

Megan Fox, who has been dubbed the new Angelina, was voted FHM's Sexiest Woman In The World for the second year in a row.

The Transformers star is only the second woman in the 15-year history of the poll to keep her top slot, after Jennifer Lopez in 2001 and 2002.

Jessica Alba, voted first in 2007, was second, and Scarlett Johansson climbed from fifth place last year to third this year.

Jessica Biel fell two places from 2008's list to fourth, while Californication's Madeline Zima was this year's highest new entry at five.

Model Adriana Lima was sixth and 24 star Elisha Cuthbert came seventh. Reality TV star Heidi Montag was in eighth place, actress Anne Hathaway was in ninth, and new entry Katy Perry completed the Top 10.

Britney Spears was the comeback queen of the year. A previous winner of the poll, voted for online by FHM readers worldwide, the pop princess scraped into the 2008 list in 100th place but made it to 12th position this year.

Jolie & Pitt address break-up rumours

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have spoken out to quash rumours of an imminent break-up - as reports of a split refuse to go away.

The Hollywood couple has been dogged by speculation about the state of their relationship in recent weeks, with Internet gossips claiming the romance is in trouble after Pitt was reportedly spotted meeting with ex-wife Jennifer Aniston last month.

The couple put on a united front at the recent Cannes Film Festival in France, kissing and cuddling for the cameras, but the show failed to dissipate the stories.

And American tabloid the National Enquirer further fuelled the rumours this week by reporting that Pitt and Jolie are making preparations to officially announce the split.

But a representative for Pitt has spoken out to dismiss the stories, telling People.com reports of an impending break-up are "absolutely not true".

The couple has been dating since 2005 and has six children together - Maddox, seven, five-year-old Pax, Zahara, three, two-year-old Shiloh and their seven-month-old twins Vivienne and Knox.

Aniston topples Jolie's 2008 earnings

Jennifer Aniston has trumped her ex-husband Brad Pitt's new partner Angelina Jolie - by earning a reported £8.9 million more than her in 2008.

Aniston is said to have earned a staggering £18.4 million on the strength of films such as Marley & Me - while the Tomb Raider star took in £9.5 million.

But neither actress could top R&B singer Beyonce, whose film career and latest album I Am…Sasha Fierce pocketed her a cool £55 million last year.

Her husband, rapper Jay-Z, did even better - adding another £56 million to his growing fortune.

Meanwhile, actor/director Tyler Perry brought home a whopping £85 million and funnyman Will Ferrell's bank account inflated by £21 million.

Jolie chastised by Thai government

Angelina Jolie has sparked outrage with Thai officials after remarking on the plight of Myanmar migrants, who have accused the country's military of mistreating them.

The actress and her partner Brad Pitt visited a refugee camp on the Thai-Myanmar border last week as part of her role as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations (UN).

She subsequently issued an emotive plea to the Thai government, urging authorities to respect the rights of the Rohingya, a Muslim ethnic group from Myanmar.

Jolie asked the Thai government to be "just as generous to the Rohingya refugees who are now arriving on their shores" as they were to the Ban Mai Nai Soi camp's 18,000 other refugees from Myanmar.

The Thai army has been accused of detaining and torturing hundreds of Rohingya who, in recent months, fled to Thailand to escape poverty in Myanmar.

But officials in the Southeast Asian country have now chastised Jolie for her comments, insisting the United Nations refugee agency should not have allowed the star to visit the centre.

Virasakdi Futrakul, permanent secretary of the Thai foreign ministry, says, "Angelina was not focused on the Rohingya, but was visiting Myanmar refugee camps. It was a coincidence that the Rohingya was a hot news issue at the time, therefore we must warn (UN refugee agency) UNHCR that they should not comment on this issue because they have no mandate on this issue.

"The Thai government will issue a reprimand letter to UNHCR asking why it allowed Angelina Jolie to visit the refugee camps."

A representative for UNHCR claims that the Thai Ministry of Interior issued camp passes for both Jolie and Pitt.
