The Taiwan Business Association in Brunei Darussalam (TBABD) yesterday donated a B$1,000 cheque to SMARTER Brunei through the association's First Charity Golf Invitation Double Ten Cup tournament at the Royal Brunei Golf Club in Berakas.
The tournament was the first major event organised by the association since it was founded on May 21, 2010.
The donation was presented by Mr Lien Kon Sien, Chairman of the Taiwan Business Association in Brunei Darussalam, to the President of SMARTER Brunei, Malai Hj Abdullah.
According to Mr Lien, the charity event was held in conjunction with Taiwan's National Day on October 10, 2010, also known as the Double Ten National Day.
"We are working for the cause of helping the weak and the less fortunate in society, and we are planning to organise more activities in the future, not only for charity but also (for) other purposes," he said.
The Chairman of TBABD also expressed his gratitude to Mr Terry Ting, Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Brunei Darussalam for his support and sponsorship of the event by various business establishments, as well as the for the attendance of all invited golfers at the event.
Mr Lien said TBABD also hoped that the event can help promote more charitable events in Brunei as well as more love and caring amongst Bruneians. The association looked forward to more raising more funds at its next golfing event so that much more can be done to help the less fortunate.
TBABD invites any interested parties to join the association. They may contact Mr Lien Kon Sien at 8717661 or Secretary Richard Chuang at 8777186. Currently the association has more than 30 corporate members.
