SMARTER (Society for the Management of Autism Related Issues in Training, Education and Resources) Brunei yesterday received $50,000 in donations from Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB).
The donation was aimed at giving the organisation a boost in financial assistance for the management and handling activities.
Receiving the generous donation from YSHHB on behalf of Smarter was Malai Hj Abdullah Malai Hj Othman, the president of Smarter.
The low-key ceremony was held in conjunction with the Aidil Adha celebrations at the headquarters of YSHHB and was organised by the YSHHB's Welfare Body.
The event also saw the presentation of donations where YSHHB donated a total of $143,395, which was distributed between seven associations.
On hand to present the donations to the respective recipients was the guest of honour, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Haji Abu Bakar Haji Apong, chairman of Yayasan board of directors.
Also attending the ceremony was the managing directors of YSHHB, invited guests, officers and staff of YSHHB as well as teachers and staff of Yayasan School.
YSHHB donated $50,000 to Pusat Ehsan; $30,000 to the Language and Literature Bureau; $5,000 to the Supreme Council for the Malay Islamic Monarchy (Majlis Tertinggi Melayu Islam Beraja); $2,130 to the Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences; $3,165 and $3,100 to UBD's Academy of Brunei Studies and the Faculty of Science (Biology) respectively; as well as $500 to the Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans (DANA).
After the presenting of donations, the guest of honour distributed sacrificial meat to representatives of the underprivileged families and participants of the day's ceremony.
