The Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), is extending its working hours temporarily to handle the more than 7,000 recipients of Her Majesty's Raja Isteri kumia peribadi (personal gifts) to ensure smooth running of transactions.
BIBD is also hiring and renting security services and extra facilities such as photocopy machines and tents for their customers. The bank had processed more than 1,500 transactions on November 8 in all the four districts, according to the Manager from the Consumer Banking Division in the capital. The manager said that all of the kurnia recipients will have to open an account with the bank before claiming any cash from the "vouchers". An estimated 5,000 out of the 7,000 are still to be processed.
More counters have also been opened to facilitate the account openings. Many staff at BIBD branches had only left work at around 10pm on November 8 after dealing with the first influx.
As of press time yesterday the expectations of another late night were abound.
