BRUNEIANS can now contribute to help in alleviating the sufferings of the victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami in the Java and Mentawai Islands, Indonesia.
A National Humanitarian Fund for the Merapi and Mentawai Disaster Victims has been set up by consent of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
The fund which will only receive contribution in the form of money, will be open from November 3 to January 3. Donations boxes are available in banks, business buildings and government buildings throughout the country.
A special committee comprising of several governmental agencies and non-governmental organisations has been formed to handle all matters relating to the collection of donations. The committee is chaired by Hj Mahdi Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Diraja Dato Laila Utama Hj Abd Rahman, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Dato Paduka Hj Jemat Hj Ampal, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. - Adam Radhi
