Brunei Darussalam will celebrate Hari Raya Aidil Adha or the "Festival of Sacrifice" on November 17, television reports announced last night.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs conducted a religious ceremony yesterday to wait for the result of moonsighting observation or merukyah to determine the first day for the month of Zulhijjah 1431 Hijriah.
The sighting was made at several observatory points including Bukit Shahbandar in Brunei-Muara district, Bukit Ambok and Bukit Agok in Tutong district and Bukit Lumut in Belait district.
Present at the religious ceremony were Minister of Religious Affairs Pg Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohammad Pg Hj Abdul Rahman, Deputy Minister Pg Hj Bahrom Pg Hj Bahar, Permanent Secretary Dato Paduka Hj Md Mahdi Pehin Orang Kaya DiGadong Seri Diraja Dato Laila Utama Hj Abdul Rahman and Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary Hj Ismail Hj Abdul Manap, and the Ministry's senior officials.
