Inter Brush Milan Aside

In what was an early prelude to the Derby della Madonnina for the upcoming Serie A season, Inter showed their arch-nemeses, AC Milan, who is king as they cruised to a 2-0 win at the Gillette Stadium in the World Football Challenge.

Both teams were unable to amass even a single win between them heading into the game and the Rossoneri looked likeliest to break the deadlock after just three minutes when Alexandre Pato's effort from distance was saved brilliantly by Julio Cesar.

But straight to the other end, Diego Milito rifled the Nerazzurri infront when he ran onto Esteban Cambiasso's pass and finished off clinically past Zeljko Kalac from a tight angle.

Milan failed to respond and it was Inter who continued to look the more threatening side, with Mario Balotelli, Dejan Stankovic and Thiago Motta all having a crack at goal.

Milito had a chance to double his tally right on the half-hour mark before Ronaldinho produced Milan's best chance since the opening minutes when his free kick from 20 yards out just sailed over the bar.

Leonardo made three changes at the break for Il Diavolo and 'Dinho came close again just after the restart when his stining shot on the edge of the area was saved by Julio Cesar.

Sulley Muntari then had two attempts at goal in quick succession for Inter, but neither found the mark as the game went into a lull.

But with 15 minutes left on the clock, Milito secured the win for Jose Mourinho's side when he collected Stankovic's pass inside the box and smashed in his shot with authority into the top right corner.

Alessandro Nesta almost salvaged a consolation for Milan in injury time but his attempt from a tight angle was easily saved.

The Rossoneri end the tournament bottom of the table with three defeats from three games but picked up two points for scoring two goals, while Inter finish third with a draw, a win and a loss and seven points in total.

Blues sink Jose`s Inter

Slick Chelsea dominated former boss Jose Mourinho's Inter Milan at the Rose Bowl to win 2-0 and get their World Football Challenge campaign off to a winning start in Pasadena, California.

Goals from Didier Drogba in the 11th minute and a Frank Lampard penalty just after half-time gave Chelsea the victory over the Italian champions in front of 81,224 fans.

The impressive nature of the Blues' performance more than the scoreline, however, will have delighted new head coach Carlo Ancelotti, especially coming so soon into the ex-AC Milan chief's first pre-season campaign and against his former cross-city rivals.

Chelsea were dominant throughout the opening half and Drogba opened the lead in the 11th minute, receiving a short pass from Lampard with his back to goal, turning and shooting unimpeded from 20 yards, the ball bouncing over Inter Milan keeper Vid Belec's outstretched left hand and into the bottom corner of the goal.

Daniel Sturridge, who scored on his debut at Seattle, and Nicolas Anelka had replaced Drogba and Kalou and they quickly caused problems.

Deco, on for Florent Malouda, sent Sturridge clear in the box in the 48th minute and when his cross from the left was blocked by Ivan Cordoba's hand, Lampard was given the chance to add to his goal scored against the Sounders, converting the penalty, right footed into the bottom corner.
